8-Acre Modern Cemetery — Karachi, Sindh

More Than a Burial Field — A Place of Dignity

Most people never plan for their own burial, and when the time comes the families least able to pay are the ones who suffer most. Azmeer Welfare Foundation is developing an 8-acre planned cemetery and burial centre that turns that moment into one of care rather than crisis.

This is a properly planned burial and community service centre — one that provides dignified burial, transparent administration, assistance for families who cannot afford burial expenses, safe access, long-term grave maintenance and reliable records.

Why It Matters

Our Principles

Seven commitments that shape how this project is designed, funded and run.

Site Components

Built Around Families, Not Graves

The master plan is being developed with licensed planners, civil engineers and religious scholars so that every family that arrives finds clear signage, shade, water, clean toilets and a respectful environment.

Master Plan

Land-Use Zones

The 8 acres are planned in distinct zones so family areas, funeral activity and heavy service work never compete for the same space.

End-to-End

The Burial Journey

A clear, documented process — so a family in grief is never left guessing what happens next.

1

Contact & Case Creation

When a death occurs, the family contacts us. We create a Burial Case ID and record the services the family needs — grave, ghusl, kafan, transport or financial assistance.

  • Family contacts the NGO / cemetery helpline
  • Operator creates a Burial Case ID
  • Required documents and authorisation are verified
  • The family's required services are recorded
  • Financial or subsidy eligibility is assessed where applicable
2

Scheduling & Grave Allocation

The burial date and time are coordinated, and a grave is allocated through the official cemetery registry — never informally.

  • Burial date and time are coordinated
  • A grave is allocated through the cemetery system
  • Grave-digging team prepares the assigned grave
  • Supervisor checks the grave and confirms the location
3

Janaah & Burial

The funeral arrives through the designated access route. Janaah is held in the designated area where applicable, and the burial is carried out with full respect.

  • Funeral arrives through the designated access route
  • Janaah takes place in the designated area where applicable
  • Burial takes place
  • Grave is restored and finished to cemetery standards
4

Record Closure

The permanent Grave ID and location are confirmed, the record is finalised and digitally backed up, and the family receives confirmation.

  • Permanent Grave ID and location are confirmed
  • Burial record is finalised and digitally backed up
  • Family receives confirmation and location information
5

Long-Term Maintenance

Every grave enters a permanent maintenance cycle, so a grave is cared for years later — not just on the day of burial.

  • Grave enters the long-term maintenance cycle
  • Routine section inspections are carried out
  • Repairs and cleaning are logged and verified
Records & Accountability

Every Grave Has One Permanent ID

Grave location is not written on a memory. It is recorded in a registry that can be verified, backed up and trusted years later.

A Grave ID example

Every grave is identified by a permanent, structured reference:

BLOCK B/ROW 08/GRAVE 034=B-08-034
  • Every grave receives one permanent, unique ID.
  • A digital record is kept alongside a controlled backup.
  • Coordinates or map reference are recorded where technically practical.
  • Deceased details are recorded only to the extent legally and operationally appropriate.
  • Burial date, case number, family contact and service details are recorded where permitted.
  • Changes are kept in an audit history — staff never silently overwrite historical information.
Visitor Experience

Caring for Families

Visiting a grave should feel peaceful, not stressful. These are the standards we hold ourselves to.

How You Can Help

Support Programs

Every program below exists because someone chose to fund it. You can underwrite a whole program, sponsor a single piece of infrastructure, or give your time.

Environment

Greener, Lower-Cost Ground

Maintenance is a permanent operating cost, not a one-off project expense — so the site is designed to be water-efficient, shaded and solar-ready from day one.

Our Standards

The Rules We Hold Ourselves To

These are published on purpose. If we ever fall short of them, you should be able to hold us accountable.

Help Us Build a Place Worth Laying Someone In

A grave is a permanent thing. Funding a burial, a shaded walkway or a water tank is a permanent act of care. Every contribution — large or small — moves this project closer to opening.
